Fall Y’all: Life Lately

It’s been a good minute since my last blog!

Life has been busy, but I finally have a minute to sit down and catch you all up. And since it’s officially fall, I figured now is the perfect time.

It’s finally fall, y’all!!!

If you know me, you know this is my favorite season. My house is decorated, the fall clothes have officially come out of the barn and made their way into my drawers, and there is pumpkin spice creamer sitting in my fridge.

I absolutely love fall and Halloween. Give me cooler weather, cozy clothes, pumpkins, and all things spooky, and I’m happy.

The girls are doing great, too. Both of them are doing fantastic in school, which makes this momma very proud. Maggie is playing softball, so we’ve been spending plenty of time at the ball field lately. Between softball, school, homeschooling, and everything else going on, our calendar stays pretty full.

I’m also staying busy with my council work and the different boards I serve on. There always seems to be a meeting, a project, or something going on, but I really enjoy being involved and getting to advocate for people with disabilities.

And then there’s grad school.I am still loving being a CUNY SPS student. I’m learning SO much in my classes, and so far, I have all A’s!

I’m not going to lie, seeing those A’s makes me smile. I was nervous when I started this journey, especially with everything else I already have going on, but I’m really enjoying it. Even though my program is online, I truly feel connected to my classmates and professors. I’m learning things that connect directly to the advocacy work I’ve been doing for years, and there have already been plenty of moments when something I read for class makes me stop and think, “Wow. This is exactly why I’m doing this.”

There’s another area of life I’ve started focusing more on… my health. Because of my steadily rising cholesterol, my doctor highly recommended that I eliminate meat for the next three months. After that, we’ll check my cholesterol again and see what happened.

So, yep. I no longer eat meat… I’m really hoping and praying that this helps bring those numbers down. It’s definitely an adjustment, especially because I’m still figuring out what to eat and how to make meals that everyone in my family will enjoy.

I need your help! If you don’t eat meat, what are your favorite meals, recipes, or tips? What do you eat when you’re tired and need something quick? Give me all the ideas because this girl is learning!

I’ve also started biking again, which feels really good. I’ve always enjoyed being active, and getting back on my bike reminds me how much I enjoy moving and getting outside. I’m just trying to make a few healthier choices and feel my best.

Life is pretty full right now, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m enjoying school, staying busy with my advocacy work, watching my girls grow, getting back into biking, and figuring out this whole no-meat thing.

I’m excited to see what the rest of fall brings. For now, I’ll be enjoying the cooler weather, softball, fall clothes, Halloween, and probably way too much pumpkin spice.

And, as always, all glory be to God.
